........Beyond
simply "Vernacular Living", Architect Expo 2018 aims to illustrate
through various exhibitions and activities how local architecture responds
to contemporary changes and challenges such as economic globalization,
global warming, and rural-urban migration. It is the first time that
members of the profession, designers, craftspeople, and other talented
people of diverse age groups get together to discuss and question Thai
contemporary architecture via five differently-designed pavilion exhibitions:
Living Space Pavilion, Working Space Pavilion, Meeting Space Pavilion,
Moving System Pavilion, and Introduction Pavilion.
........1. Living Space Pavilion - Designed by Boonlert Hemvijitraphan from Boon Design. This exhibition displays the transformation of vernacular architecture from traditional to contemporary forms through photographs, lighting design, and fireplace structure models and reveals that mass-production houses are not the definite answer to living space. ........2. Working Space Pavilion - Designed by Jariyawaddee Lekawatana and Luke Yeung from ARCHITECTKIDD. This exhibition shows the transition of working space from before and after industrialization through the mix use of furniture arrangement and multimedia. It also illustrates how working space used to be incorporated with living space before industrialization, separate from living space after industrialization and, today, is back to being shared with living space again in the mass technology era. ........3. Meeting Space Pavilion - Designed by Suriya Umpansiriratana from Walllasia. This exhibition distinctively uses a game application to demonstrate the overlap of public meeting spaces and online space. It also questions the interrelation between physical real-world environments and augmented reality (AR) and how their interactions can alter the use of urban meeting spaces. ........4. Moving System Pavilion - Designed by Prof. Veera Inpantang and Pitch Poshyananda and built with applied nail-less structure. This wooden pavilion is a presentation of moving system, which questions the creation of local traditional transportation and the development of online technology that helps enhance the exchange of products and services, including changes in urban space. ........5. Introduction Pavilion - Designed by Savitri Paisalwattana, and Jakub Gardolinski from PAGAA together with Methus Srisuchart from MAGLA. This exhibition highlights the role and significance of Thailand's vernacular architecture and its founders. The pavilion structure is built with a pneumatic architecture system that characteristically shifts due to environmental factors |
