Mahanakorn University of Technology is ready to enter its 3rd
decade with the opening of the Mahanakorn Institute of Innovation or MII.

........
........Mahanakorn University of Technology or MUT is to undergo a big image reform by highlighting a new system of teaching and research and encouraging the cooperation between citizens and the government to promote the development in engineering, science and technology, as well as collaborating with leading educational institutions from abroad in preparation to step into the third decade of the university. Plans are afoot for the inauguration of the Mahanakorn Institute of Innovation or MII, a brand new institute with purposes of creating new generation engineers, supporting a digital economy and the Thailand 4.0 model so that Thailand can stay competitive in the global market.
........Prof. Dr. Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom, president of the MUT university council, revealed that "Throughout 27 years, MUT has always been devoted to improving the quality of training, teaching, and researching. These efforts result in MUT's standard becoming comparable to the leading Thai universities. The results from 3 rounds of external assessment by the Office for National Education Standards and Quality Assessment (Public Organization) or ONESQA shows that MUT is categorized as a university that focuses on researching and producing quality graduates. The highly satisfactory assessment results make MUT become a certified university by meeting the quality standards set out by ONESQA. The past accomplishments of the university also include a major role in the development of several innovations such as the development of the country's first microsatellite which was designed and built by MUT Staff to capture pictures of the terrestrial landscape, transfer signals, and analyze digital signals - functions that are very instrumental in engineering fields. The microsatellite was named "Thaipat" by His Majesty the King Rama IX. MUT is also the first institute that researched and developed a taximeter, which is still used as the standard taximeter.

........Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sujate Jantarang, president of MUT, said that "This year, MUT will undergo a number of significant changes in many aspects from improving landscape which includes buildings and all facilities in MUT with the total budget invested of 60 million baht, to developing courses and co-research projects with leading academic institutions in England, Australia, Germany, Japan and South Korea. New institute will also be established such as the Mahanakorn for Sustained Innovation Research Centre (MASI) which will focus on developing national business defense innovation, the True LAB @MAHANAKORN, a learning center that offers opportunities for students and the general public to have access to modern equipment and tools, computers, and the internet, as well as meeting facilities that stimulate creativity and innovations to answer the needs of business and industry 4.0 along. Trainings in skills that are in high demand in various fields of industry will also be held there, free of charge for people who are interested."

........Asst. Prof. Dr. Panavy Pookaiyaudom, vice president in policy and planning department and Dean of the faculty of engineering commented that "As the next step in the development of science and technology personnel, MUT has opened the Mahanakorn Institute of Innovation: MII in order to develop engineering curriculums that emphasize innovation by modifying the teaching style, curriculum, and learning environments under the concept "STEAM Education" that combines theory and practice of Science, Technology, Engineering, English, Arts and Mathematics together and each can selects special studies based on individual's interest in the concept of Active Learning like Kitchen Chemistry to produce new generation graduates who possess skills that meet the needs of industry. There are also laboratories for performing specific tasks whether in robotics, networks, controlling program systems, electrical system, and controlling mechanics, and so on.
........
........To prepare for the digital economy and Thailand 4.0, MUT has developed three major curriculums. The first group is MII courses which include computer engineering, logistics engineering, control and instrumentation engineering, mechatronics engineering, information engineering and communication for the digital economy, innovation and business management, English for communication in the digital age, and a bilingual program in engineering. For the bilingual program, MUT joins hands with the University of Sheffield, Oxford Brookes University in England and the University of Ulsan, South Korea to develop the courses. The second group is engineering courses which cover electrical engineering, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and telecommunications engineering. The last group is courses in other fields including information science and technology, business administration, and veterinary science.
........"The investment and development in many areas of MUT will continue on in the years to come to ensure that we will be able to produce quality personnel and respond to the needs of the labor market which is the cornerstone of the sustainable development of Thailand 4.0," the vice president concluded.
........In addition, on this approaching 31 January 2017, MUT is planning to hold "Knowledge and Technology: Driving Forces of Thailand" at MUT to showcase latest innovations in the agricultural industry, ICT industry, space technology industry, and robotic industry to students and the general public. Visitors are welcome to exchange ideas in innovation and technology in this event which is held only once in a year. The highlight is the exhibition that illustrates a variety of applications of robotics and satellite technology in industries.
