Nobody Beats the Biz" and it's been that way since 1987. "The
Diabolical" Biz Markie has been entertaining artists since the
early 80's with his comedic style of MCing and entertaining. He combines
the art of freestyle MCing with the talents of Djing and Beatboxing
(or as he first said it in his song "Makin Music with your mouth")
and a little off key singing and dancing just for fun. This pioneer
in the hip-hop business has toured the world with everyone from the
likes of the Juice Crew, Cold Crush Brothers, and Marley Marl, to the
Beastie Boys and Kutmasta Kurt.
........ His First album, Goin' Off, became a word-of-mouth hit based on the underground hit singles "Vapors," "Pickin' Boogers," and "Make the Music With Your Mouth, Biz." ........His biggest success came with the song "Just a Friend" off of his second album "The Biz never Sleeps" and he made hip hop history as well as damaged his own career by sampling the Gilbert O'Sullivan track "Alone Again" on his third album I need a Haircut. The lawsuit was the first of its kind dealing with "sampling" music. He lost the case and set the precedence for sample clearances in modern music. It set his career back drastically and Biz countered with his 1993 album, All Samples Cleared!, but his career had already been hurt by the lawsuit. Biz stopped recording and returned to Djing and entertaining crowds by touring until finally in he gained worldwide recognition in a scene with Will Smith in the movie Men in Black 2, as a beat boxing alien and he dropped his last album Weekend Warrior to critical acclaim. |
